As an artist and art educator, my desire is to share my passion for art with others. Hello, I am Catherine Olander, from Morehead City, North Carolina. I am a fulltime art educator at Croatan High School in Newport, North Carolina. Entering my 8th year as an art teacher in North Carolina, I look forward to the new adventures that arise in the classroom everyday! I am recently completed a master’s degree in education with a concentration in art education. It was an amazing experience to be a part of a research-based, art community. When I am not teaching, I enjoy painting outside, instructing yoga at my gym, spending time near the water, or connecting with friends and family. My grandmother shared with me her love of art and of being creative, and my goal as an artist and educator is to share that same love and passion with others as I pass on that tradition of finding and creating interesting things through my art and teaching.
For this e-portfolio I have chosen a resume-style framework to share a collection of artifacts that represent me as an artist, educator, and individual. The categories that I will explore further are Studio Work, Teaching Experience and Creative Research. This e-portfolio was a part of my final project at East Carolina University. My hope is to bring together my work into a cohesive showcase where I am able to document my work, as well as create a place to interact with others as I grow as an artist and educator.
